Welcome to our new website. We will aim to be providing all the information and guidance that you will need to help you with your running.
We are all runners at Runners' Retreat so can hopefully emphasise with our customers about the highs and lows that running can bring. Between us thousands of miles have been run and raced. We have had some great experiences with our sport and want to pass that on to you.

Whether you have signed up for your local Park Run, 10k, Mud Run or The Famous London Marathon, we are here to help!
We stock the highest quality running shoes, technical clothing and accessories for men, women and children from the world's leading running brands. Our gait analysis machine will give us a biomechanical analysis. This information determines the degree of cushioning and support you’ll need in your trainers. After we have done the test we can then find trainers accordingly. Our customers leave feeling satisfied and happy with their purchases.
(Plus we must all get the wear out of new purchases to give us that extra motivation to get out the front door!)
If you are taking part in a mud race this year then make sure you are kitted out with the best shoes and clothing layers to help you on the day. At Runners' Retreat we have strong off road shoes with high tread perfect for running through mud, gravel, water and uneven terrain.
Tough Mudder - Fawley 2nd & 3rd May 2015
Tough Mudder or any Mud Run Race, you're going to get wet and muddy. What you wear will have a major effect on your performance!
Practical - Avoid cotton and anything heavy.
Protection - There are lots of obstacles. Wicking matericals that offer breathable fabrics will help to keep the sweat away.
Durable - Having the right clothing that won't fall apart. Avoiding thin materials that stretch in water and mud leaving you carrying extra weight and feeling heavy.
Prepared - Make sure you have the right footwear and clothes before hand to practice in training. If it is wet and windy then a waterprrof or windproof jacket will help to keep you dry during warming up and cooling down.
Footwear - We have lots of off road shoes at Runners' Retreat. With high tread and tough outer soles, they are perfect for the conditions you will be faced with at Tough Mudder.
Running a Marathon this year?
Here are some top tips on how to prepare ahead of the big day.
Training and racing in the correct running gear is crucial. If you train for a marathon in a old pair of trainers that you have had for ages and use daily, then more than likey you will pick up some niggles that might cause you an injury. You will be covering hundreds of miles in training and you need to protect your joints when running. Cushioning is important when it comes to picking the right running shoe. You need to make sure you are protected from the impact from the roads. Having your gait anaylsed would be advised. You might over-pronate when running which will cause your arches to collapse and your feet to roll inwards. If so no problem! We sell lots of shoes that have support built into them to push the collapsed arches back up when running. This will help take the pressure off your hips and knees.
This isn't the case for everyone of course! There are also lots of you that run neutrally. If this is you then cushioning is still important. You need to make sure you aren't running in a too low profile shoe. Support won't be needed in a neutral shoe as you won't roll inwards when you land.
